understanding behaviours and feedback on camera usage for a leading tech company

A leading global American technology company wanted to understand current behaviours and understanding of concepts related to the low-end smartphone camera of the Next Billion Users. As a partner to Turian Labs, Xeno was responsible for leading multiple research sprints in Pune and Jaipur for the tech company. Through qualitative research over 3 months, we were able to uncover insights around current camera usage and also test the prototypes & mocks that the company for building their new digital product.

HOW DID WE APPROACH IT?

We conducted the research study in sprints where we started with a usability study with the target audience to gain initial feedback on the prototype of the product. By incorporating the feedback from this study,  we designed the prototype for the Onboarding Study in Jaipur where we installed it on the user’s phones and analysed their initial feedback and reactions to it. 2 weeks later, we conducted an Off boarding Study to understand their experience of using the product for 2 weeks. This gave us more extensive feedback on what works for the users over time and identify areas of improvement while testing for discoverability, memorability, functionality and use cases. We followed up with 2 rounds of usability research to test multiple concepts through prototypes and mocks to further test various possibilities of features, copywriting and visual representation.

WHAT DID WE DELIVER?

After each research sprint, we presented a Key Takeaways report that summarised the feedback from research and laid out recommendations to improve the design of the product to make it more user-friendly and impactful. We also shared raw notes, photos & videos from each session along with English audio translation to the client.

WHAT WAS THE IMPACT?

Over 3 months, we collected user feedback from 60 users and improved the product consistently along the process through multiple iterations. We tested the product and incorporated users’ feedback to design it to be more relevant, impactful and easy-to-use.

We also tested multiple variations of the design to ensure that the features, design and copy of the product is decided mindfully to work best for the target audience.

By following this process, we helped the client build a thorough understanding of the mindset and behaviours of their target audience around camera usage and they were able to build a product iteratively that works effectively for their users!
